There are many ways to make work more enjoyable: one is the good company of colleagues, another is relaxing at the table with excellent food, and the last one I know is drinking good wine together with your team.
During the last meeting, and often in others too, we managed to find the right mix and strengthen the bonds between us and our dedication to achieving our goals.
Near Pescara there is a lovely restaurant I didn't know: "Il diavolo e l'acqua santa"; they have a good, well-stocked cantina.
I declined, as I often do, the invitation to choose the wine: I knew that someone (and I knew exactly who!) would choose just the right thing, perhaps letting me try something special!
An excellent starter, and many had already emptied their glass … I ordered a tagliata di grotta with truffle drops, ginger and parmesan shavings – I simply cannot honor the dish without finishing the wine right away! That would be disrespectful!
We are in the presence of an excellent product: Escol, Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Colline Teramane Riserva 2008 produced by cantina San Lorenzo.
A ministerial decree in 2003 granted the Montepulciano d'Abruzzo of the Teramane hills the DOCG denomination, the first and only in Abruzzo, covering an area that roughly coincides with the territory of the province of Teramo.
An impenetrable deep red color; on the nose it arrives immediately: decisive, clear, strong, intense. Notes of overripe red fruits, sour cherry, blackcurrant, blueberries, musk, undergrowth, spices, pepper. Letting it age has done it good: it is now perfectly oxygenated.
On the palate it has great body; a skillful use of oak is perceptible; it is balanced, tannic and warm. The tannin is fine and pleasant, and the wine proves to be quite persistent.
A wine that ages well and can continue to improve for quite some time.
A pleasant table companion that doesn't even need an extra chair to settle in – its 14.5% vol. is enough to warm us up, and the food and friends take care of the rest.
