The Cantine Casale della Ioria of Anagni have carried forward the cultivation and vinification of the typical varieties of Ciociaria since the early twentieth century – an area south of Rome that, thanks to its particularly favorable microclimate and strategic position, has always made grape and olive growing one of its major sources of income.
The estate's vineyards are divided into two parts: the first, 21 hectares in the municipality of Anagni on clay soils, hosts the cultivation of Cesanese Campo Nuovo, Cesanese Tenuta della Ioria, the blend Tres, and a portion of Passerina; the remaining 17 hectares are located between Acuto and Piglio at 400 meters above sea level, on predominantly volcanic, limestone-based soils reserved for the production of part of the Passerina, the Olivella, and the Cesanese Riserva Torre del Piano, which we discuss today.

The Cesanese del Piglio, a native grape variety of the province of Frosinone and, in part, of Rome, presents medium-sized clusters and berries with a very thick, blue-violet skin, and must be cultivated in very well-exposed areas to produce wines of good quality.
In appearance it presents an intense ruby red, slightly orange-tinged, truly brilliant and very promising. On the nose aromas of dried fruit stand out, especially date, apricot and plum, along with vaguely spiced hints of white pepper and cloves. On the palate the pleasant full body is striking, along with a light balsamic note with hints of liquorice and fruit in spirit; the tannins are skillfully managed, achieving great elegance and never becoming overly intrusive. On closer examination, fairly persistent aromas of vanilla emerge on the retro-nasal finish.
