Primitivo

Primitivo is the symbolic grape of Apulia: early ripening, it produces rich, concentrated, high-alcohol wines. It is genetically identical to California's Zinfandel.

Characteristics and history

Primitivo is the most internationally famous Apulian red grape. DNA studies have shown that it is identical to California's Zinfandel and Croatia's Crljenak Kaštelanski. It produces warm, rich, fruity wines (plum, blackberry, cherry). DOCG/DOC: Primitivo di Manduria Dolce Naturale, Primitivo di Manduria DOC.
