Vermentino

Vermentino is the great white of the Mediterranean: aromatic, savoury and fresh, it excels in Sardinia (Vermentino di Gallura DOCG), Liguria (Pigato) and Tuscany (Bolgheri).

Characteristics and history

Vermentino is the most important Mediterranean white grape. In Sardinia it is the basis of Vermentino di Gallura DOCG (Sardinia's only DOCG), in Liguria it is called Pigato, in Tuscany (Bolgheri) Favorita.

It favours granitic soils and warm, ventilated climates. It produces wines of a straw-yellow colour, with a complex aromatic profile of citrus, Mediterranean herbs (rosemary, thyme), pear and white flowers, with a typical savoury-mineral finish. An excellent match for seafood.
