Cortese

Cortese is the white grape of Gavi: it produces Gavi DOCG, a fresh and minerally savoury white from south-eastern Piedmont.

Characteristics and history

Cortese is the native grape of the Gavi area (Alessandria, Piedmont). It is the basis of Gavi DOCG. It produces wines of a pale straw colour, firm acidity, a profile of green apple, citrus, almond and white flowers, with a savoury, mineral finish.
