Organic, biodynamic and natural wine represents a fast-growing trend on the Italian scene. Certified organic follows EU regulations (zero synthetic pesticides, only reduced sulphites). Biodynamic adds Steinerian practices (lunar calendar, preparations). Natural has no legal certification but adopts principles: indigenous yeasts, no added sulphites (or minimal), no invasive fining/filtration.
Italy is the world leader in organic vineyard area (>110,000 ha). Triveneto, Sicily, Tuscany and Piedmont are the most active regions.
