The Wine on Tap Scam

Today we're talking about a "bad wine" story: thirty thousand liters of wine have been seized across Italy, sold in wine bars and enotecas as D.O.C. and D.O.C.G. wines when they were actually bulk wines served on tap.

So much for production regulations!
The operation, named "In vino varietas", was launched on February 4th and 5th across ninety establishments.
Prosecco, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Nero often hidden behind labels that hinted at the contents.
The thirty thousand liters of seized wine have a commercial value of over 60,000 euros and were immediately removed from sale in order to «protect unwitting consumers and the production of quality wines which represent an undisputed excellence in the Italian agri-food landscape», as investigators reported.
To think that "Prosecco on tap" made in England caused a scandal, as did Chianti Bianco or powdered wines in Canada – yet this time we managed to do it all at home, flouting our own protections!
