Leo Messi, four Ballon d'Or to his name, is not only a great champion and an icon of football – the great little Argentine has been involved in social causes since 2008 through his eponymous Foundation, which fights to guarantee a better future for at-risk children.
The Foundation provides scholarships in Barcelona for Argentine doctors specializing in childhood cancer treatment and works to "reduce the vulnerability" of young people through sport; it has also contributed to the renovation of a sports center in Rosario, Leo's hometown, and to the refurbishment of several hospital wards dedicated to the youngest patients.
Among the many initiatives launched is an agreement with the Argentine winery Valentin Bianchi, which markets the "LEO: esencia creadora" line, including a 100% torrontes white – an indigenous Argentine grape – an Extra Brut sparkling wine, and two Malbec-based reds (a grape introduced from France to the country in the second half of the nineteenth century), including a base and a Premium.
The sale of these products will serve to raise funds for projects aimed at improving the health and education conditions of children.
The charity wines of "la pulce" are also available in Italy; the Malbec Premium in particular is recommended as the "standout" of the range.
It has a garnet color with bluish reflections, releases rustic and earthy aromas, and appears quite young given the age of the vines. A budding talent, in other words – one that, unlike a young footballer for whom we would recommend a swift debut, we feel should be kept in the cellar for a few more years.
Worth trying if not out of curiosity, at least out of solidarity!
