Vola Lontano: a Campanian Sparkling Wine

I receive an invitation for a special evening with a colleague, celebrating his new home and the birth of the newest arrival: little Francesco.
A dinner with a dear friend is not something I dream of letting slip by, so I decide to buy a few things, from a gift for the star of the evening, to dessert and of course some bubbles to do justice to the new home as well.
A few little outfits for the baby and a cake from our trusted pastry shop are purchased with ease, the wine, however, deserves a deeper and more careful choice.
When I have to choose a wine to give as a gift or to drink in company, I always start with a description of the person's profile, because I like to do it this way, trying to weave a story behind the choice and turn that drinking experience into a narrative by explaining the reasoning behind that particular product.

My friend is someone who loves extravagance, not a great wine connoisseur, and he likes to show off, often trying to impress with expensive and refined products, regardless of the wine.
What could a person like that possibly drink? Obviously Champagne!
Cristal, Krug (strictly rosé), Armand de Brignac or at most the more accessible Clicquot and Mumm.
Flashy products – the Armand in particular is, in my opinion, all style and no substance!
I could have played it safe and picked similar products, or some excellent franciacorta, but why be ordinary?

Decision phase 1: it will not be a Champagne; reasoning: there are also quality Italian products out there.
Decision phase 2: franciacorta is well known and this time I want to showcase our much-maligned homeland, Campania.

But what Campanian bubbles could I possibly pick to impress him?
Alfonso Rotolo offers me the alternative I was looking for! A product he has certainly never tasted and that will surprise him!
From the Rotolo estate I have tried various wines – Le Ghiandaie, for example, did not disappoint me in the least.
This time my choice falls on Vola Lontano, a brut classic method sparkling wine, made from 100% fiano grapes, with fully manual remuage and dégorgement.
The name itself is a wonderful wish! What's more, it seems tailor-made for the occasion!

A product enjoyable as an aperitif or also with fish dishes, particularly shellfish; we decide to drink it at the end of the meal, well after the last course, while chatting about this and that seated on the brand new white sofa!
A wine with a deep golden yellow color; a captivating and attractive bouquet that reveals aromas of bread crust, white fruit, and citrus.
Moving to the palate, it is fruity and soft with a retro-nasal finish that reminds me of spring in blooming fields – a relaxing and pleasant sensation.
A very easy-drinking product, especially thanks to its pleasant acidity that immediately makes you want another sip!
A distinctive and elegant sparkling wine: if you want to impress, you have found the right product!
Here's to Alfonso Rotolo! (pictured)
