Hello everyone, I decided to share my story with wine, hoping to win the prize since I now "venerate" it.
It is thanks to wine that I am here talking to you today, otherwise I might have been abroad, like so many of my colleagues, the so-called "brain drain".
You may wonder why – about 5 years ago, after earning my degree in marine biology, I couldn't find answers to my aspirations; to tell the truth, there were only opportunities to be exploited.
By complete chance, one Thursday evening I decided to accept a friend's invitation to an event at a wine bar, a presentation of some bottles from a winery I no longer remember. Lots of friendly, pleasant people – and it was there that I met Massimo and Linda, a married couple with a passion and expertise for wine unlike anything I had ever seen.
They began asking me some get-to-know-you questions, and my moment arrived with an excellent glass of Barolo in hand. I started to "vent" and share my point of view on choosing to stay here in Italy and being able to study and research our seabeds and marine fauna.
They seemed interested and got straight to the point, and I found myself increasingly drawn into sharing the innovative ideas I had been so eager to apply. Surprised and intrigued, they asked me outright to stay in touch.
The next day I received a phone call from Massimo, who explained that he is an entrepreneur who also works in the field of applied biology.
Long story short, we met and he introduced me to his partner, who coordinates a group of research centers across about 6 countries around the world, including one right here in our city – and today I am proud to say that someone believed in me. It has been 4 years since I started running a research department at the institution.
I confess that from that day on I have never abandoned wine and never will. It adds that extra value when you least expect it, and it is a fantastic feeling!
